In the Netherlands, Police detained thousands of climate activists over the weekend after they shut down a major highway two days in a row. Several thousand climate activists blocked a Dutch highway on Saturday and Sunday before police dispersed them with water cannons.
Protesters expressed their anger at billions of Euros
in government subsidies for industries that use oil, coal, and gas. According to a report, these subsidies total around 40.2 billion dollars each year. The protesters said, they would continue protesting until the Dutch government stops using public money to subsidize the oil and gas industry.
