Pope Francis, who is on a three day visit to the UAE called for the rejection of the word “war’ in all its form . He was speaking at the Interfaith Conference in Abu Dhabi which was attended by at least 600 religious and cultural leaders of different faiths and scholars.
He said, human fraternity requires of us, as representatives of the world's religions, the duty to reject every nuance of approval from the word 'war'.
The Pope said, he is thinking in particular of Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Libya. The interfaith meeting in Abu Dhabi attended by
and other religious leaders of different faiths.
Pope Francis said, hatred and violence in the name of God cannot be justified, praising the value of education in reducing conflict.
In his speech, Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb, the world's top Sunni Muslim cleric said, he and the Pope agreed that all faiths should be free from the actions of those who commit violence in the name of religion.
United Arab Emirates is playing a leading role in Yemen's conflict as part of a Saudi-led military coalition.
