Pope Francis spent a stable ninth night in the hospital, the Holy See Press Office announced this today in its latest update.
The 88-year-old Pontiff remains in critical condition at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, where he is being treated for double pneumonia following a severe respiratory crisis that required high oxygen support.
According to the Vatican, Pope Francis has received blood transfusions to
address low platelet levels associated with anemia.
Doctors have described Pope Francis’ condition as touch-and-go, citing his age, frailty, and pre-existing lung disease as key risk factors.
They warn that the primary concern is the potential spread of the infection into his bloodstream, which could lead to sepsis, a life-threatening complication.
