The power crisis across Pakistan has intensified as the overall electricity shortfall reached 5000 megawatts. All nine power distribution companies (Discos) on Thursday were facing long interruptions of electricity supply in urban and rural areas across the country. On the other hand, consumers blamed the government for the current crisis.
The situation is grave as big cities are facing hourly power outages during peak hours. Lahore Electricity Supply Company Limited (LESCO) is facing
a shortage of 1000 MW as the demand is 4,100 MW and the available power is 3,100 MW.
A Lesco spokesperson said Lahore’s electricity use had increased to 3,500 MW from 3,200 MW and there was a shortage of around 400 MW.
Pakistan’s power capacity was also lowered due to reason of the non-availability of furnace oil and regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) and the country might have to face power outages in Ramazan.
