The President of Nepal, Bidhya Devi Bhandari administered oath to Chiefs, the constitutional heads of 7 provinces at Kathmandu this evening. Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli and other dignitaries were also present in the swearing-in ceremony. Prof Govinda Bahadur Tumbahang sworn in as the Chief of Province 1, Ratneshwar Lal Kayastha of Province 2, Ms Anuradha Koirala Province 3, Baburam Kunwar Province 4, Umakanta Jha Province 5, Durga Keshar Khanal Province 6 and Mohan Raj Malla as Governor of Province 7.

Election Commission of Nepal has submitted results of State Assemblies election to newly appointed Provincial Chiefs. After the promulgation of new Constitution in September 2015 Nepal has adopted federalism. 

First time in the history of the country elections for provincial assemblies were held in two phases on 26 November and 7 December 2017. CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Centre) left alliance registered landslide victory in all states except Province 2. The two major parties of Madhes, Sanghiya Samjawadi Forum Nepal and Rashtriya Janata Party Nepal got majority in Province 2. Now newly appointed Governors will administer oath to recently elected members of their respective provincial assemblies.
