The Presidential Elections in Sri Lanka will be held on 21st of September. Issuing a Gazette notification, the Election Commission also invited nominations for the polls which will be accepted on 15th of August. Earlier this year, the Elections Commission had Issued a statement that elections will be held between September 17 and October 16. The last Presidential elections in Sri Lanka were



held in 2018 when Gotabaya Rajapaksa had emerged victorious winning over five lakh preferential votes. 
 
After the economic and political crisis in 2022 which saw Gotabaya resign, the Parliament had elected Ranil Wickremasinghe as the President for the remainder of the term which expires on 17th of November this year.
