Russia is ready to discuss US proposal on Ukraine ceasefire

The Kremlin announced on Thursday that Russia is now ready to discuss the U.S. ceasefire proposal. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov stated that discussions were taking place calmly and that Moscow remained open to negotiations. However, he expressed concerns that the proposal could serve as a temporary advantage for Ukraine’s military. U.S. officials are in Moscow to discuss a potential ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine as diplomatic efforts intensify to halt the ongoing conflict. The visit comes as Russia’s military claimed to have recaptured Sudzha, a key town in the Kursk region that Ukraine seized last year in a surprise attack. Ushakov said Russia sought a peace deal that met its interests. After U.S.-Ukraine talks in Jeddah, Zelensky urged Washington to persuade Russia to accept a ceasefire. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the decision was up to Moscow and backed negotiations to end the war.
