JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia has told the UN that food security is one of the most important issues of the 21st century.
Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al-Qadi, first secretary of the Saudi Arabian Mission to the UN in New York, added that the Kingdom supports international efforts to fight hunger and poverty, and he highlighted Saudi aid in this field.
Al-Qadi was speaking during the UN General Assembly in New York on food security and agricultural development.
The Kingdom’s permanent delegation has underlined the importance of concerted international efforts
on food security and agricultural development to eradicate hunger and poverty.
Al-Qadi said the initiative for Saudi agricultural investment abroad is in line with the directives of the specialized agencies to help developing countries to invest internally and build their infrastructure and provide incentives for the sustainable use of soil and water resources.
He also said that the increase in population growth, the low levels of arable land, and the effects of urbanization and economic growth, combine to make the issue of food security one of the biggest problems facing us today.
