Saudi Government launches $306m development projects in Makkah

Saudi government has launched SR1.15 billion ($306 million) development projects in Makkah region including a scheme for beautification of entrances to the city, a new rainwater drainage network and construction of a cultural centre, said a report.

These projects will cover the governorates of Kamil, where SR788 million ($210 million) has been allocated for the purpose, and Khulais, which will see schemes worth SR370 million ($99 million), reported Saudi Gazette.

Prince Khaled Al Faisal, the Emir of Makkah and adviser to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, unveiled the projects during a visit to the governorates.

He launched 11 municipal projects in Kamil, including three for the



protection from flood waters and one for the facelift to the city's entrances as well as the constructiondevelopment of concrete pavements for roads, public gardens, playgrounds, and construction of wall around the cemeteries.

A total of 16 projects for digging wells and four projects of the Kamil branch of Jeddah University were also inaugurated, said the report.

In Khulais, Prince Khaled unveiled several key projects including the development of old and unplanned districts, public squares and work related to beautification of entrances to the city.

He also inspected the progress of work of some projects which are being implemented in the governorate, the report added.
