Saudi king orders that whistleblowers be shielded from backlash

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has ordered that whistleblowers who report corruption in the kingdom be protected, according to local media reports.
According to Al Arabiya TV, the decree protects whistleblowers from “violation of their privileges or rights”.

No further details were given.

The Saudi anti-corruption drive is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s



efforts to help Saudi Arabia become less dependent on oil.
Most of the people previously detained in the anti-corruption drive have now been released after deals that the government says brought in over $100 billion to Saudi coffers.
In March, King Salman ordered that specialised departments be formed in the public prosecutor’s office to facilitate the investigation and prosecution of corruption cases.
