Six people including a one-year-old girl were killed in a Ukrainian missile attack on Thursday on the southern Russian city of Belgorod, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said.
Eighteen other people, including four children, were hospitalised with injuries, with six in serious condition, Gladkov said, adding that two children had already been released for outpatient treatment.
Belgorod, which lies about 30 kilometres (19 miles) from Ukraine, has been repeatedly targeted by what
Moscow says is indiscriminate cross-border shelling. Videos circulating on social media showed several ambulances parked outside a heavily damaged shopping centre with shattered windows.
Russian officials said air defence systems had shot down 14 Ukrainian missiles over the Belgorod region. Russian Zvezda TV, which is closely affiliated with the Ministry of Defence, said one rocket hit a shopping centre and one landed on the city's sports stadium.
