Six people killed in Jersey City shooting

In the US, six people were killed and two others wounded in a shooting yesterday. According to media reports, a police officer and at least five other people including two suspected gunmen died in a furious gunbattle in Jersey City, in the State of New Jersey.

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop told local media, two other police officers had also been wounded, including one who was shot in the shoulder. Media reports said, the Jersey City shooting began when an officer, investigating a homicide,



approached the store, which is near a synagogue and a school. Hundreds of rounds were fired in the ensuing shootout.

A motive for the incident has not yet been established. Authorities say they do not believe it was a terror attack. The incident is the latest high-profile shooting in the United States, where firearms were linked to nearly 40,000 deaths of various kinds in 2017, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
