South Korea torrential rains: Death toll rises to 33, over 7 thousand evacuated

The death toll from torrential rain in South Korea has risen to 33. The tally is expected to rise as more heavy rain is expected on the Korean peninsula today, the Korea Meteorological Administration forecast.

Korea Railroad Corp said it was halting all slow trains and some bullet trains as landslides, track flooding and falling rocks threatened safety.

Interior and Safety said many people were still missing as heavy downpours caused landslides and floods across the country. More than seven thousand people have been evacuated so far.

South Korea has been pounded by heavy rains since the 9th of July. The ministry said thousands of households had been left without electricity in the past seven days.
