Colombo: Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe has declared electricity, petroleum distribution, and health services as essential. The president issued an extraordinary gazette notification yesterday, emphasizing that these sectors are vital to the community and may face obstacles or interruptions. This declaration follows a similar gazette issued on 17th of April, which declared postal services as essential.
The newly declared essential services encompass the entire
spectrum of electricity supply, as well as the distribution of petroleum products and fuel. Furthermore, it covers all necessary services, labor, and work related to the maintenance and care of patients in hospitals, nursing homes, dispensaries, and similar institutions.
The move aims to safeguard the uninterrupted provision of these critical services that are crucial for the well-being and functioning of the country.
