Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has reportedly agreed to consider convening of Parliament session at an early date. This came following his meeting with Parliament speaker Karu Jaysurya this evening. 

Mr. Jaysurya office said that the speaker requested the President to call parliament session by early next week. Mr. Sirisena is reported to have said that he will take a decision in coming days and will convey it accordingly. 

Earlier, the President has prorogued the Parliament ill 16th of November following swearing in of



Mahinda Rajapakse as Prime Minister in place of Ranil Wickremsinghe on Friday. The latter has maintained that he is still the Prime Minster and has the majority in house.

In related development, a group of ambassadors from UN, EU, Britain, Canada and Germany today met with the speaker at the parliament and expressed concern over the unexpected political developments in Sri Lanka. 

They pointed out the adverse consequences Sri Lanka will have to face as a result of the constitutional crisis.
