In the United States, thousands of people in Georgetown, South Carolina have been urged to evacuate their homes due to the floods triggered by Hurricane Florence. Rainwater unleashed by the Hurricane has surged down rivers, threatening to submerge some neighbourhoods under 10 feet of
water.
Georgetown sits at the confluence of the Waccamaw, Great Pee Dee and Sampit rivers. It was largely spared the initial fury of Florence, which came ashore earlier this month as Category 1 hurricane, killing 46 people in three states.
