PORTLAND, Ore. – Protesters marched through downtown Portland Wednesday afternoon to voice their opposition to President-elect Donald Trump.
About 100 protesters, many high schoolers, met at Pioneer Courthouse Square and marched along the streets. They then gathered at the Pioneer Courthouse to hold signs and chant. The protest grew to more than a couple hundred people as protesters voiced their concerns of a Trump presidency.
"We need to exercise our power," Gregory McKelvey, leader of Don't Shoot Portland told the crowd. He also urged protesters to continue to demonstrate the rest of the week.
There were several confrontations at
the protest. Police took at least one man into custody after protesters said he assaulted someone.
Portland police said several protests in the area may affect the commute. TriMet said the Pioneer Square North, Pioneer Square South and Pioneer Courthouse MAX platforms are closed for safety reasons. TriMet advises riders to leave downtown Portland early if possible to avoid anticipated delays and disruptions.

Similar protests were held across the nation on Wednesday.
