Turkey blocked access to the social networking platform Instagram in the country yesterday. The Turkish government has accused Meta, the US-based parent company of Instagram of blocking condolence posts on the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
Turkish presidency’s communications director, Fahrettin
Altun, criticised the Meta-owned platform. In a social media post on X, Mr Altun accused the platform of repeatedly serving the global system of exploitation and injustice. He said that the Turkish government will continue to defend freedom of expression against these platforms.
