The Turkish parliament has approved a motion to deploy elements of the Turkish Armed Forces to Somalia, including to its maritime jurisdiction areas. The Turkish forces will be stationed in Somalia for two years to assist with security efforts against terrorism and other threats. This decision follows a defence and economic cooperation agreement signed between Turkey and
Somalia in February, which aims to enhance Somalia’s maritime defence capabilities.
Additionally, in mid-July, the Turkish Energy Ministry announced plans to send an oil and gas exploration vessel to the Somali coast later this year, as part of a hydrocarbon cooperation agreement between the two nations.
