The United Arab Emirates has backed India on its decision to revoke the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcate the state into two Union Territories.
The Gulf News quoted the UAE ambassador to India Ahmad Al Banna as saying that he viewed India's decisions relating to Jammu and Kashmir as an internal matter of the country. Mr Banna said, UAE expect that the
changes will improve social justice and security and confidence of the people in local governance. He said it will also encourage further stability and peace.
The envoy observed that the reorganisation of states is not a unique incident in the history of independent India and that it was mainly aimed at reducing regional disparity and improving efficiency.
