London: In UK, Member of Parliament Sir David Amess has died yesterday after being stabbed at his constituency surgery in Essex. Police said a 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the stabbing at a church in Leigh-on-Sea. They said, they have recovered a knife and were not looking for anyone else in connection to the incident.
Sixty-nine-year-old David had been an MP since 1983 and was married with five children. Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi has expressed condolence over
his demise.
Raised as a Roman Catholic, David was known politically as a social conservative and as a prominent campaigner against abortion and on animal welfare issues.
British lawmakers are protected by armed police when they are inside Parliament but have no such protection in their constituencies.
Politicians from across the political spectrum expressed shock at initial reports of the stabbing.
