UK PM Rishi Sunak appoints Grant Shapps as new Defence Minister

London: UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Thursday appointed Grant Shapps as the new Defence Minister. The development comes after former Defence Secretary Ben Wallace resigned due to personal reasons. Shapps has previously served as Transport Secretary, energy

secretary and Home Secretary.

The new post of Defence Secretary marks his fifth ministerial portfolio. Grant Shapps has been a strong supporter of Sunak as Conservative Party leader.
