On the first anniversary of girls being banned from attending high schools in Afghanistan, the UN renewed its call that the Taliban immediately reopen high schools for everyone. Last year on the same day, the 18th of September, high schools reopened to boys, while the Taliban ordered girls to stay at home.
The Islamic Emirate had
said earlier that they were working on a mechanism to pave the way for the reopening of girls’ schools. However, the final decision has yet to be announced. The closure of schools for female students in grades 7-12 by the Islamic Emirate has faced reactions at national and international levels.
