United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will visit Moscow on April 26 for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The announcement of his visit came amid ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Guterres will have a working meeting and lunch with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.
The United Nations Secretary-General will also be received by President Vladimir Putin. UN Associate Spokesperson Eri Kaneko said that
Guterres hopes to talk about what can be done to bring peace to Ukraine urgently.
In efforts to end the war in Ukraine, the UN chief had written separate letters to the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, requesting to meet with each of them in their respective capitals. He is currently working with the Government of Ukraine on scheduling a meeting in Kyiv with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
