The UN Security Council has called an urgent meeting this afternoon to address the situation in Eastern Ukraine. The UN media office said this in its daily agenda at the UN. Ukraine had requested the Council to hold an urgent meeting following Moscow's announcement that it will facilitate the process of issuing Russian passports to some Donbas
residents.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree that allows permanent residents of certain districts in Ukraine's Donetsk and Luhansk regions to use a simplified procedure to apply for Russian citizenship.
US condemned the decision saying that it is a violation of the country's sovereignty.
