This year, UNESCO has added 25 new landmark sites to the World Heritage List during the 46th World Heritage Committee Session held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Furthermore, two major boundary modifications have also been formalised by the Committee. Among these, 13 new sites were inscribed today including Japan’s Sado Island Gold Mines, Thailand’s Phu Phrabat Historical Park, South Africa’s Nelson Mandela Legacy Sites for Human Rights, Liberation and Reconciliation, Italy’s



Via Appia and China’s Beijing Central Axis amongst others. 19 of these sites have been inducted as Cultural Heritage Sites, while 4 have been inducted under the Natural category and two under the “Mixed” category. India’s Moidams of Assam was inducted as India’s 43rd World Heritage Site yesterday. The Moidams has propelled the nation at the 6th position globally for the most number of World Heritage Properties.
