The United States and China are to resume talks after months of spiralling tension in a bid to resolve their trade disputes.
News agency AFP reports that delayed meeting in Washington comes weeks before US President Donald Trump is expected to meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinpingon the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Argentina.
It may be recalled that
President Trump had slapped $250 billion worth of tariffs on Chinese goods, accusing Beijing of nefarious trading practices, prompting retaliatory measures. In today's meeting Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo and Defence Secretary Jim Mattis and two high-ranking Chinese policymakers are also likely to discuss steps to reduce military friction between the two countries.
