US President Donald Trump has announced that US Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is stepping down. In a tweet, President Trump thanked her for her service and said she would be temporarily replaced by Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan.
Mr Trump said, he has confidence that
Kevin will do a great job. Ms Nielsen's departure comes more than a year after she was confirmed to take over the post from John Kelly when he became the president's chief of staff. Ms Nielsen's department was responsible for implementing the proposed border wall and the separation of migrant families.
