US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan despite China's warning. Ms Pelosi has become the highest-ranked elected US official to visit Taiwan in 25 years. The US House Speaker insisted that her trip in no way contradicts official US policy. She also asserted Washington's strong commitment to the self-ruled island, which China views as part of its territory.
In a statement after her arrival yesterday, Ms Pelosi said the US congressional delegation's visit to Taiwan honors America's unwavering commitment to supporting Taiwan's vibrant
democracy.
She addressed Taiwan's parliament and met Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen this morning. Speaking on the occasion, she said the entire US is united in support of Taiwan. She said the US will not backtrack from its commitment to stand with Taiwan.
China has announced to launch 'targeted military operations' after Pelosi touchdown in Taiwan after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ignored Beijing's warning and arrived into Taiwan. US Republican Party has supported Ms Pelosi's trip.
