US issues work permits to spouses of more than 71,000 H-1B visa holders

The US has issued employment authorisation documents to spouses of more than 71,000 H-1B visa holders, A report said, over 90 percent of them are Indians. 

The previous Obama administration in 2015 had started issuing employment authorisation or work permits to the spouses of



H-1B visas.The spouses or dependents of H-1B visa holders come to the US on H-4 visas, who were not authorised to work before 2015.

The Trump administration has signalled it plans to end the programme this year, likely with a proposed regulation in June.
