US President Joe Biden has formally announced his decision to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan before September 11, the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre.

Speaking from the White House, Mr Biden pledged that the US will continue to support Afghanistan after withdrawing all US troops, but not militarily. He said, it is time to end America's longest war. He further said the withdrawal will begin on May 1, in line

with an agreement President Donald Trump's administration made with the Taliban and the complete withdrawal will be done by September 11.

Meanwhile, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani tweeted that he spoke with Mr Biden and that he respects the US decision and we will work with our US partners to ensure a smooth transition. Mr Ghani said, Afghanistan's defence forces are fully capable of defending its people and country.
