US Supreme Court upholds Trump administration's travel ban on people from 5 Muslim-majority countries

The US Supreme Court has ruled in favour of the Trump administration's travel ban targeting people from several Muslim-majority countries. 

Lower courts had deemed the ban unconstitutional, but the US top court last night reversed the decision in a 5-4 majority ruling. The ban prohibits most people from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen from entering the US. The court's reversal is viewed as a victory for the Trump administration. 

President Trump has welcomed the



decision. In a tweet, he said, the ruling is a tremendous victory for the American People and the Constitution. Trump said, the ruling shows that all of the attacks from the media and the Democrat politicians are wrong, and they turned out to be very wrong.

In a proclamation in September 2017, Trump had placed entry restrictions on nationals of eight foreign nations whose systems for managing and sharing information about their nationals he deemed inadequate.
