Americans voted last night in a crucial nationwide midterm elections to elect members of the Congress and dozens of state governors. The midterm elections mark two years since Donald Trump was elected President and can be seen as a referendum on his performance so far.
Republicans, also referred to as GOP, currently control the House of Representatives and the Senate. But experts suggest the Democrats might take control. In the current house, Republicans have a 43-seat majority at 236 while Democrats have 193 members with six seats being vacant. The Democrats need a net gain of 24 seats to win a majority, which is no
small accomplishment, but Trump's low approval ratings have given the party reason to hope.
The Results will start coming by afternoon today. Meanwhile, former Democratic lawmaker and current Bank of Guam President Lou Leon Guerrero has been elected the first female governor of the US territory of Guam in Micronesia, in the Western Pacific. With all 67 precincts counted, Leon Guerrero and Joshua Tenorio, her running mate, received 50.7 percent of the votes cast for governor of Guam, defeating incumbent Republican Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio and Tony Ada, by more than 8,600 votes.
