Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has submitted an appeal to the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice to audit and certify the results of Sunday’s presidential elections amid calls for greater transparency.
Mr. Maduro asked the highest court yesterday to summon the pertinent institutions to compare all the elements of evidence through an expert opinion of the highest technical level.
On Monday,
Venezuela’s National Electoral Council declared Mr. Maduro the winner of the presidential elections, paving the way for his third six-year term, from 2025 to 2031.
Protests broke out in the capital Caracas after the disputed result of the country’s presidential election. Thousands gathered in the city centre to show their opposition to President Maduro’s claim of victory.
