The son of legendary wrestler Jerry “The King” Lawler attempted to commit suicide in his cell following his arrest for driving under the influence and evading arrest.
Brian, 46, was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived.
Tributes to the star have since poured in over social media.
WWE icon Hulk Hogan tweeted: “RIP Brian Christopher thank you for always stealing the show my brother only love HH.”
Brian Christopher's death was announced alongside those of fellow wrestlers Nikolai Volkoff and Brockhouse Brown.
Following the
announcements Kurt Angle said: “Sorry to hear the passings of Nikolai Volkoff, Brian Christopher and Brockhouse Brown. A very sad day in the history of Sports Entertainment. RIP.”
The WWE released a statement after it was confirmed the former star had died.
It said: “WWE is saddened to learn that Brian Christopher Lawler, who is best known in WWE as Too Cool’s Grand Master Sexy, has passed away.
“Lawyer, who is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler, competed during the height of the Attitude era.
“WWE extends its condolences to Lawler’s family, friends and fans.”
