In Yemen, Al-Qaeda gunmen killed 19 soldiers in an attack on an army base in the southern part of the country yesterday. The attack came a day after twin attacks in the port city of Aden where 49 people were killed.
Security officials said that the gunmen stormed Al-Mahfad base in Abyan province and clashed with soldiers. Yemen-based Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
claimed responsibility for today's attack.
In a statement, Al-Qaeda said it had blown up buildings inside the base and withdrew safely but did not claim a death toll for that operation. The United States considers Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula most dangerous and has waged a long-running drone war against its leaders.
