At least two people were killed and more than 70 injured in Assam when an earthquake measuring 6.8 at Richter scale rocked Eastern and North Eastern parts of the country yesterday evening. Mild to moderate tremors were also felt in Sikkim, Manipur, Nagaland, West Bengal, Odisha, parts of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and the national capital Delhi at 7:25 PM.
The quake also affected
power supply, communications and rail services in some pockets for sometime in the region. National Centre for Seismology said in New Delhi that the epicentre of the quake was located in Myanmar, 100 KM off the India-Myanmar border. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Ministers of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland after the earthquake. Prime Minister Office said this in a series of tweets.
