Mystery behind Anurag Tiwari's death deepens, heart failure ruled out

The mystery behind the death of Karnataka cadre IAS officer Anurag Tiwari, who was found dead on the road in Uttar Pradesh capital city Lucknow last month, deepened after heart failure was ruled out as a possible cause of death.

According to the police sources, the report of the histopathological examination of Tiwari's heart, which had been preserved along with his viscera and blood for chemical analysis, said that the officer did not suffer from any heart-related ailment.

Tiwari's postmortem report was inconclusive though the police officials had suspected asphyxia as a possible cause of death. 

Sources said that the CBI, which formally launched its investigation into Tiwari's mysterious death a few days back, was likely to visit Bangalore to quiz the officer's superiors.



Tiwari's brother Mayank, who had alleged that the officer had been murdered, was likely to accompany the CBI sleuths.

The CBI team visited the room at the government guest house, where he had been staying with an IAS friend of his. It also visited the spot where his body was found lying.

Tiwari, who was Commissioner of Food and Civil supplies and consumer affairs department in Karnataka, was found dead last month. His body was found lying on the side of the road a few metres away from the Guest House on Meera Bai Marg on May 17.

Various theories made round after Tiwari's death. While the family members alleged that he had fallen victim to a conspiracy hatched by his superiors, who risked being exposed by Tiwari, the police said that 'drug overdose'' could also be a cause of death.
