National Conference leader Omar Abdullah will take the oath as the Chief Minister of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir today. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will administer the oath to Mr. Abdullah along with his Council of Ministers at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre in Srinagar at 11:30 a.m.
The Lieutenant Governor had invited Mr. Abdullah to form the government after his party emerged victorious in the recent Assembly Elections, which were held after the gap of 10 years. The J&K Legislative Assembly held its last Assembly Elections in 2014. Elaborate security arrangements have been made around the venue to ensure a safe and smooth event.
Omar Abdullah’s
swearing-in comes after his party secured 42 out of 90 Assembly seats in the recently held elections. NC’s pre-poll ally, Congress, won six seats, giving the Alliance a comfortable majority. Several other parties that emerged victorious, including CPI (M), Aam Aadmi Party, and Independent Legislators, have confirmed their support for the NC-Congress alliance government, further solidifying Omar’s leadership.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and KC Venugopal, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, and other leaders of the INDIA bloc are expected to attend the oath ceremony.
