The Karnataka government on Thursday had to give in to local citizens' protests to scrap the Rs 1,800 crore steel flyover project.
The project. which was proposed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) in an attempt to reduce the city's traffic, would have resulted in cutting down of
about 800 trees.
Bengaluru residents had been protesting against the 6.72-km long, 6-lane flyover that was meant to connect Basaveshwara Circle and Hebbal.
Allegations of corruption against the ruling Congress party MLAs also resulted in the another hit to the project.
