Varanasi: The 100th meeting of G20 working group will start today in Varanasi city of Uttar Pradesh. Three-day meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS) will start at Hotel Taj and on the first day the inaugural session will be graced by Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation, General (Retd) V. K. Singh.
The three-day meeting is being organised by the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture, and Farmers Welfare. About 80 foreign delegates from G20 Member States will participate in the event. Senior Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and other Ministries including the Ministry of External Affairs will also attend the meeting.
Delegates and scientists from different countries have already reached Kashi for the meeting and a grand welcome was given to them. The whole city
is eagerly waiting to welcome the foreign delegates and the walls of the city along with the ghats at Holy Ganga are fully decorated with slogans and pictures related to the G20 theme. The various issues of agriculture research and development including food security and nutrition, Climate Smart Agriculture, Digital Agriculture, Public Private Partnership, etc. have been included for discussion.
An important feature will be The “Millets And OtHer Ancient GRains International ReSearcH Initiative (MAHARISHI)’ which is also proposed for deliberations as G20 initiative during Indian Presidency. Dr. Himanshu Pathak, DG of, Indian Council for agriculture research told that MAHARISHI aims at advancing research collaborations and generating awareness about millets and other ancient grains during International Years of Millets 2023 and after.
