At least 14 people killed and several others were injured on Tuesday after a transformer exploded in the Khatulai village near the Shahpura town in Jaipur.
The massive explosion occurred at a time when the members of a family were passing by the transformer on their way to perform some marriage rituals
State power minister Pushpendra Singh ordered an inquiry into the incident, reported Hindustan Times. “We have set up a committee to look into the cause of the blast...Usually, this kind of thing (blast in transformers) never happens,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje visited the SMS hospital
“Saddened by the unfortunate incident at Shahpura near Jaipur. Took feedback and directed officials to take necessary measures and action,” Raje said in a series of tweets.
Union Minister and Jaipur Rural MP Rajyavardhan Rathore also visited the site.
Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot too expressed grief. “My heartfelt condolences to families of victims, may God give them strength to bear loss.. may departed souls rip...Prayers for the injured,” tweeted Gehlot.
