The Government yesterday said under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0, 1.6 crore LPG connections have been issued in the country for the period of 2023-24 to 2025-26.
In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi informed that the target was set for 2025 -26 which has been already achieved in July this year.
He said as a result of government efforts LPG coverage in the country has improved from 62 percent in April 2016 to near saturation.
The Minister further added that the Ujjawala was launched in May 2016 with an aim to
provide deposit-free LPG connections to women from poor households across the country.
Mr. Gopi said the target to provide 8 crore LPG connections under PMUY Phase I was achieved in September 2019.
The Union minister informed that for enhanced user accessibility for seamless and hassle-free booking of LPG refills several initiatives like SMS, IVRS ( Interactive Voice Response Systems), Whatsapp Calling directly on the phone number of distributor, e-commerce platforms, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) apps and OMCs web portals are rolled out.
