Kerala Fisheries Minister J Mercykutty Amma has said that all the 19 Indian fishermen, detained off the coast of British island Diego Garcia for allegedly trespassing into its territorial waters, have been released. The fishermen, released yesterday, were in custody since 27th of last month. She informed that the state government
was in constant touch with the External Affairs Ministry and the British authorities in this regard, an official statement, said in Thiruvananthapuram yesterday. The fishermen are expected to reach Kochi next week. Of the 19 fishermen 12 are from Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district, six from Kerala and one from Assam.
