Coinciding with Nagaland Statehood Day celebration, the 24th edition of the Hornbill Festival 2023 will kick start at the Naga Heritage Village Kisama from today. United States of America , Germany and Columbia are the Country Partners and Assam as Partner state for this year edition. The opening ceremony of the 10-day festival will start from 4:00 PM at Kisama.
Ambassador of USA to India, Eric Garcetti, Ambassador to British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis, Ambassador of Colombia to India, Dr. Victor Echeverri Jaramillo and German Consul General Kolkata, Barbara Voss will grace the inaugural function as Honoured Guests of the festival. Governor of Nagaland La Ganesan and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will be the Chief Host and Host respectively, while, Minister for Tourism & Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along will Co- Host. Call of the Hornbill Festival by Task Force for Music and Arts( TAFMA) will marked the opening ceremony.
The main hornbill stage will feature 40 Bands and acts comprising of 800 artists throughout the 10 day festival
, with participations of bands from Germany, USA, Colombia, South Korea, some of the biggest names in the Indian music scene, Nagaland and the Northeast.
For the first time, there will be an exhibition featuring the Mithun, the State animal and Tenyi Vo, a native breed of pig from the rural Nagaland. In addition, Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission is launching the first ‘Bee tourism' to showcase Nagaland’s rich beekeeping tradition and unique practices carried out across the state.
Highlights of the 10 days festival includes daily performances of 18 cultural troupes, sell of locally made products of Nagaland, handloom & handicrafts, artworks, Agri & allied, horticulture, traditional stone pulling ceremony, film festival, photo fest, off road, night Carnivals, Dzukou experience, village or heritage walk, kids carnival, sports fest and many more. Extended events of the Hornbill Festival in locations like Khezhakeno, Zunheboto, Doyang, and Peren are also being held simultaneously.
