At least 27 people, including 11 children and 11 women, died as a tractor-trolley overturned on the road in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur on Saturday. At least 30 others were injured who are being treated at a hospital.
The tractor-trolley, carrying over 50 pilgrims, was on its way to Ghatampur from Fatehpur where the passengers attended a "mundan" ceremony at the Chandrika Devi temple. It met with an accident after it overturned and fell into a pond near Bhadeuna village, located within the Saar police station limits. The police
and rescue teams reached the spot and took the injured to the hospital.
"Distressed by the tractor-trolley mishap in Kanpur. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their near and dear ones. Prayers with the injured. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected," a tweet by the Prime Minister's Office read.
"An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be paid to the next of kin of each of the deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000," stated another PMO tweet.
