27-year-old software engineer from Hyderabad missing at US, Family asked for help from Sushma Swaraj

A 27-year-old software engineer from Hyderabad, who went to the US to work for a multinational company and stopped calling his family since October last year, has been reported missing.

According to the police, Pandu Raghavendra Rao, a resident of Vinayanagar Colony in Saidabad locality, first left for London to pursue higher studies in December 2011 and then moved to California, US, later to join the tech giant Microsoft.

“In the last seven and a half years, he had not come to Hyderabad even once. But he used to call me and my wife from a number almost every day and was very happy with the job also,” said P Bangaram, a retired executive engineer with department of agriculture and marketing, in his complaint.

Saidabad police inspector K Sattaiah said the last call Bangaram had received from Raghavendra was on October 21, 2017. “A day before that, his father apparently told him that he was not keeping good health and hence, asked him to come to India at least once. Raghavendra said he would find time to fly down but



from the very next day, he stopped calling parents,” the inspector said.

Since then, Bangaram has been running from pillar to post to get in touch with him. He tried to contact his friends in the US and also the local Microsoft office here, but to no avail.

“He is my only son and there is no one to look after me,” he told the police.

Raghavendra’s family has been in a state of shock. His mother Pushpalatha and sister Rajani have also been making representations to every official.

Inspector Sattaiah said since the person was missing in the US, the local police could not register any complaint. “However, we helped Bangaram to contact the NRI cell in the state secretariat, through which he could try finding out his son’s whereabouts,” he said.

Bangaram also wrote to Union ministry of external affairs Sushma Swaraj requesting her to ask the Indian embassy in USA to help trace his son. He also contacted the Consulate General of India in San Francisco in this regard.
