Three militants were on Wednesday killed in an encounter with security forces in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, police said.
A policeman was also injured in the gunfight that began this morning. Three bodies were also recovered from the encounter site.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Kalaroos village of the district this morning following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of
militants in the area, a police official said.
He said as the forces were conducting the operation, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter in which three militants were killed.
"The identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained," he said.
During the initial gunfight, a policeman was injured, the official said, adding the injured cop has been taken to a hospital for treatment.
