A 94-year-old Army widow’s pension was restored after her word reached to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Hebe Benjamin, who wrote many letters to the MoD (Ministry of Defence) for the same, got no response to her complaint.

Fed up of not getting any response from the MoD, Hebe Benjamin, widow of Late Col George Benjamin of Army Engineers, decided to write a letter to Modi for restoration of family pension for over 29 years. After reading Hebe’s letter, PM intervened and ordered ministry to pay 29 year-worth of Hebe’s pension,

which is more than Rs 75 lakh. If interest and arrears are paid then the figure could even cross Rs 1 crore.

While talking to India Today TV, Habe’s family friend, Manpreet Kant said, “She had lost all hope. As a last resort Hebe Benjamin wrote to the PM requesting him to restore the pension that was due to her. Col Benjamin had served the Army with pride. After retirement they relocated to Israel. Once he passed away, family pension was no longer being deposited in her account. And Hebe Benjamin had no other sources of income.”
