At least 31 people were killed, including 22 in Himachal Pradesh alone, as heavy rains lashed large swathes of the country, triggering flashfloods, landslides and house collapses.

Apart from 22 deaths in Himachal, four each died in Uttarakhand and Odisha, and one in Jharkhand in rain-related incidents.

The worst effects were felt in Himachal Pradesh, where eight people also went missing due to landslides and other rain-re lated



accidents in Mandi, Kangra and Chamba.

The Chakki bridge in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra collapsed due to heavy rains on Saturday, disrupting train services between Pathankot and Jogindernagar.

In the hill state of Uttarakhand, a series of cloudbursts early Saturday killed four people, while 10 went missing as rivers breached banks, washed away bridges, and threw mud and water inside houses, forcing evacuation of multiple villages.
